Fran Jones, Director of Broking and Markets, talks about her experience of working in a male dominated industry, and how Verlingue are working to change this trend.
After some 45 years within Insurance, oh how life has changed from being the colleague expected to put the kettle on and be the general run around, when male colleagues, who started their career at the same time, were quickly elevated to more senior positions.
Yes, there have been times when the hurdles seem to be never ending, and you face the water jump with times when some colleagues are waiting to see if you go headfirst. On the flip side I am lucky to have had some fantastic mentors and coaches who have taken time to ensure that I was given a level playing field with some fantastic support, enabling me to gain the confidence to build a strong internal and external network. I would add without this support and platform I may not have been so brave and confident.
Green shoots have certainly appeared over the last few years and whilst, perhaps the Insurers have taken the lead, we are certainly seeing more female role models within the Broking community, giving a fantastic balance within the workplace.
